I feel like flexing my writing muscle this very moment. So while trying to get into the headspace of a writer I have had to ask myself one question. Who is my audience? This is important because this blog has no audience, I'm writing to absolutely no one. Don't worry I'm not necessarily writing this to blame you because I'm the only one reading it. Confused? This could be a really long post. It is very important when writing a play or book to ask who is going to read this book. The write should be able to read his or her work from the perspective of the audience. Does a work survive if no one reads it? Does the work exist if no one reads it? It's weird, I'm sitting here at my computer writing to no one, not even myself. Deep eh? Stop.

I found an amazing website after hearing a speaker on Coast to Coast AM. Xeno tech research has done extensive analyze of NASAs and ESAs Mars Data. And guess what, there are fossils and liquid water on Mars. NASA has yet to officially announce this data, but at the present time they do not denie it either. Actually, they confirm most of it so far. So with the found methane and liquid water, where's the life?

I just read this very disturbing article from a link on whatreallyhappened.com. Short Story, the offical FBI investigation, has never found any evidence that for the 19 'Hijackers' of 9/11 to have anything to do 9/11 itself. They were basiclly random muslims for all and purposes. Very disturbing.
I'm just having some great oolong tea and decided I should link some important stories so that I can delete the bookmarks. The first is from Richard C. Hoagland over at The Enterprise Mission, its a lenghy break down of the Methane found on Mars. The writer is quite well known to people who would like to now the truth, or perhaps just want a real idea of what's going on. I haven't finished the whole article but I will.

Here's another quick link to a story about someone or some group, governmental or not, screwing with public message boards to either remove important information or spread propaganda. To pull something like this off would take a lot of resouces, that's why a government looks so suspicious. Most of the incidents have occurred about Israel and her policies. Ever with all this I still would trust an alternative news outlet on the web before I trust news from the Globals news desk. Anyone out there have any thoughts on this?

I'm trying to figure out who my audience in for this web blog as it seems to be mostly myself. Which is cool eh. Anyways, I'm going to go finish my tea now.

I'm just about to go watch the radiohead.tv episode at the top of the hour. A good watch if you are a true Radiohead-head. Anyway, I found this short article about a conspiracy theorist proof here. I believe he is a rational man is starting to wake up to whats really happening and here in this short article you get to see, quite poeticly, this man awaken to the beast. What else is new? Started typing my research paper; had sushi; typing. I'm very tired, I have so much I have to do this week. Woe is me.

Well this blog will, I suppose, be more blog-like. I feel good today. And now I'm just going to ramble on... Because I can. It's dark outside but my lamp is on, spilling its golden light into my room. Cozy. I think I feel so good today because I learned a lot. One, I lived a little. Pat will be happy to know I asked a cute girl out to tea only on a hunch that she also liked Radiohead. As good excuse as any for asking a girl out. Two, two nights ago I learned how to energize water. Just pour yourself a glass of tap water and place it atop your stereo speaker. Then, play a good tune or two or three. Drink the water. Tastes good doesn't it? Tastes like water, which is nothing. Rather unlike tap water. After these thoughts cross your mind you'll notice all your little aches are gone from your body and your head feels clearer. What's happened? Well its actually a quite well known phenomenon in some circles. Look through the Coast to Coast link for it. Tomorrow I think I will go to the university. I am starting the outline for my research paper. I finally have all the pieces to write about Le Corbusier. Architecture is my thing and I really now feel comfortable working within Corbu's theoretical framework. I had to connect the two far extremes embodied in Le Corbusier; the strong influence of the Western Architectural Canon on Le Corbusier and also the time he lived in and the ziestgist that whipped it along, modernism. What I found in my research was that Le Corbusier believed rationalism connected his modern architecture to the great architecture of history. This is actually started in the blurry-word Enlightenment. The disconnection of language from the object had many consquences, in architecture it is seen from the detachment of decoration and structure. This is conclued by Le Corbusier in Purism. But truly Le Corbusier gave us much architecture, or more accurately, how we looked at architecture. Le Corbusier stood back and looked at architecture as a smaller component in the large fabric of the urban environment, he in effect, only wanted us to looked at architecture's context. Architecture at it's core was about social change, or rather a tool for social change. So how did Le Corbusier support these arguments? I don't even know if I can use this word: esotericlly. I really look at his theories criticlly (I don't help myself any by liking the guy just because someone said he was the best). The main issue and focus of Le Corbesier's theory is worker housing and yet he built many villa's (what worker housing he built is barely suitable for a jail really, that said, he thought out of the box for sure). He believed that to build rationally one needs a system of proportion. Books and books are dedicated to this issue. Perhaps the cloister-like system of academics during the time had an affect but Le Corbusier's vision is perhaps grander than is achievable at the time. Le Corbusier has a plan for the urban modern city, but his theories are too fuzzy, it's like doing research in a soup. He contradict himself, his actions sometimes speak quite differently that what he writes. His contemporary critics pointed this out at the time, but as Tom Wolfe points our about the time period, the architect was always right. Perhaps this confusion even made him more attractive, because he was very successful, he raised structures all over the world. So how do I look at Le Corbusier. Well I do to him what he did for us. Separate form and context. Look at his Villa Savoye. If I look at the building in its context it looks dated, unloved. I see it's many mechanical failures and client problems and the monster that are his theories. But one could also look at just the pure form of the Villa. Then one can see that the beauty of modernism is quite old, it is rooted in the timeless nature of all good architecture. The lightness, the functionalism, the poetic nature of architecture is all revealed.

I found this interesting link on the great LibertyForum.com. It's an interview with former FBI translator, Sibel Edmonds, who was hired shortly after Sept. 11 to translate intelligence gathered over the previous year related to the 9/11 attacks. She says the FBI had information that an attack using airplanes was being planned before Sept. 11 and calls Condoleezza Rice's claim the White House had no specific information on a domestic threat or one involving planes "an outrageous lie." This story was originally taken from Democracy Now. Of course this information has not been picked up in the mainstream at all, but that's ok since I havent listened to them for news for awhile now.

This is a link to a rather long article found on whatreallyhappened.com. The article enters into a rather technical investigation on illegal trading and 9/11. It's also rather long but I found it a very good read. Just more unanswered questions but I'm a little smarter. It baffles me how people are not raging in the streets to get the truth. Find out who profited from these illegal trades and you find the real people responible for 9/11. I think it will be ironic if it turns out to be W. Bush.

Anyone here going to see The Corporation? I hope to see it on Sunday with the gang from work. There seems to be growing buzz around this movie, which is surprising since there has been little to no ads. I doubt it will ever have a main theater release since its essentially an anti-cooperate movie; not surprising when I put it that way. But I do not worry. The people that see it will be awakened to what's really going on and join the grass roots movement. So I encourge everyone to go see it.

In the same vein of the Unanswered Questions of 9/11 I found this article about new information about the Oklahoma City Bombing. Again there is a situation of terrorism where the offical line is full of holes. Intesting evidence in introduced about how the building came down by high explosives planted on the structure and not by a lone ammonium nitrate fuel oil bomb outside on the street. Also interesting is the very well documented reports of other unexploded ordinace found at the site. No answers really, but lots of questions.

In following up on the data on global warming linked on the left more info has been released this time in the form of a Top secret Pentagon document leaked to the UK based Observer and is now in wide circlation of the internet, linked here. Basiclly the link on the left talks about the cooling of artic currents with in the next 10 years, meaning Europe will end up looking like Canada. The Pentagon document is a study of the political, social and eviromental affects of that gobal warming/cooling trend. Most of the problem arises out the extremely high levels of CO-2 that companys and cars are pumping into the atmosphere on a daily bases. If you would like to have just a break down of the .pdf file earthfiles.com has an excellant writeup here. Read the link soon because it may not stay up for long.

An interesting website has some of the best data I've ever come across for the existence of an illuminati-like organization. Author Bev Harris wrote a book called "BLACK BOX VOTING: Ballot-Tampering in the 21st Century" about the massive, gaping holes in the present voting system in America. She's rather normal really, she's in her 50s and came arcoss very sensitive voter machine config files when she did a non-related goggle search; then she spent a couple of years researching the issue and published a book about what she found. One such small example is that one of the main suppliers of voting machines is a Saudi company based from some Caribbean bank. That just doesn't roll with me, if its such an legit company why on earth are they based out of the Canary Islands. And while the book doesn't name the company it will only take two guesses at what the last name might be: Saud or Bin Ladin? Just interesting information I'm throwing out there, make up your own mind, all I ask is that you get the information first.

Also of note over at Guerrilla News Network is a really good QuickTime video about the so called War in Drugs in two parts. Linked here. The reality of the Drug War across the United States is studied with profound insight and artfulness. This is praproganda for the movement that is coming. Great beats and some ill rhymes for all the hip-hop headz and very well done.

Sorry I havent updated lately. I've come across some very important information that everyone should probably know about but I want to make sure I have correst first. I will update more often from now on.

Look up!

"Before the terrifying prospects now available to humanity, we see even more clearly that peace is the only goal worth struggling for. This is no longer a prayer but a demand to be made by all peoples to their governments - a demand to choose definitively between hell and reason."
-- Albert Camus

Why should I struggle for material wealth (which I can't even prove exists) or fight for my country's glory? They're transient measures. These things are relative and ebb and flow in the stream that we call history. Technology really is quite grand. It has allowed an amazing level of interconnection between people. However, the flaw is that technology has evolved faster than our morals. So while we have invented ways to kill the world many times over or link each instantaneously, many people are still able to justify doing nothing and nuclear weapons are controlled by flawed people. I read this post on Bloodhorn.com post in which the person suggests that violence is simply a part of human nature. He said he learned this view in school. While I am here to tell him otherwise. There's two sides to every story and I hope he has an open mind to see such ideas. There's really no reason that the world has to be destroyed in an apocalyptic finale. If we choose for the world to become peaceful all we need is a small shift in perspective. I don't doubt that humans are violence, nay aggressive, but humans are balanced creatures. We also contain an amazing capacity of creativity and imagination. The key is to safely channel both of these influences. People paint and write books. Why can't people also do the same for aggregation. Take up Judo, boxing or Counter-Strike. This is a link to exactly such a group that is working to create such a change in perspective, the group includes writers, politicians and activists. Why do we separate the world into Us and Them? I suggest that everyone change their perspective slightly and see that all humans are just hurtling through a vacuum on a rock.

Dear goodness it has been a beautiful couple of days in Calgary. There was not a cloud in the sky yesterday and it was so bright because of the snow on the ground you had to squint to go outside. Quite poetic. And the best part about living in Calgary is we get a Chinook arch for the weekend. (for those international readers, it's basically a warm wind carried over the Rockies from ocean)

This is an environmental post this morning before I head out for lunch and then to class. I came across this article summarizing a study that had been released in Britain about a major cooling of currents in the Atlantic. The results of this is that in a mere 10 years Britain and Europe would no longer be the mild places they are today, and be more like, well Canada. The study was written by Nobel prize-winner Professor Paul Crutzen and other top scientists. These guys know what their talking about, maybe we (read: W. Bush and Paul Martin) should listen. There's also a link to this story in the sidebar. From my understanding what's happening here on earth is that because of global warming the earth is just trying to balance itself out by cooling off rapidly. A book was written in 1999 on this very issue. Written by Robert W. Felix called "Not by Fire But by Ice," linked to Amazon.com here. The book addresses this concept in detail and relates it to past environmental changes on earth, specifically the dinosaurs.

On a lighter note than freezing to death here's a Bush quote:
"I think anybody who doesn't think I'm smart enough to handle the job is underestimating."

Open Letter to Islamic Fundamentalists Who Are Bent on Trying to Kill Me:

I was disturbed in reading some Militant Hamas literature firstly it said that they desired to spread Islam to all corners of the world. I really have no problem with this statement. I like learning about other cultures furthermore Christians and Buddhists have spread their gospels for many years. However, the statement continued saying that if I didn't convert I would be slaughtered. Now I am a somewhat-intelligent guy and I know this statement is not followed by even a small fraction of Muslims, but its still disturbing. I only have this small question and maybe a Islamic cleric can answer it for me; but what are do they plan to do once they have converted the entire world? I would hazard to guess they would hopefully settle down, raise a family, visit friends and enjoy Allah's blessings. (Maybe people could start to debate the deeper social issues of the world such as capital punishment and euthanasia without the irony that we're just letting people starve.) So what I propose is just skip the world domination part and I will work my best getting this machine call "constitutional democracy" to work properly and fairly. They should just simplify their lives and I promise to try and get W. Bush tried for war crimes.

Personally I think we should celebrate our differences. I have been fortunate to have traveled to many places around the world and I see that while places far away are completely different, they are still people, with family and sad times and good times and are people I can call friends. I totally respect Islam, I wish no harm to even Islamic Fundamentalists. I must confess that I think you should not force people to be Muslim, isn't the whole process that much more powerful if the person freely chooses to follow Mohammad? I can totally see why western culture seems so scary. And there's no reason why you have to allow banks, Starbucks and reality TV into your culture as hard as ad-agency would try, even I agree there's no reason to be capitalist, even though that system does let you believe whatever you like and still run a business. (I would though like to see more women's rights and an end to ruling by fear, but these are really nit picks of mine) There nothing more beautiful that hearing the Muslim call to prayer. Call me an idealist but I would be honored if a Muslim family and my family could sit down at the same table. Of course I would research all the proper foods, called halal, and server them with flourish, it would not be a chore. The dinner would be a celebration and we could be closer and wiser people because of it. Email me to set the date.

I came across this story from Saudi Arabia's top cleric denouncing terrorismm. The Grand Mufti said that "Islam has forbidden violence in all its forms." I'm not completely in the know in this area, maybe main stream Muslims don't adherer to his school of Islam. I think sometimes it can be hard for Christians to identify with Muslims simply because they have so much in common, such as sharing some of the same prophets and books. I will be posting more about this later. Just a side note; I think it's rather ironic --- though not surprising --- that this story wasn't more wide spread in the western media.

Well, I lied. Not a good way to start a blog about the truth. It's not getting any warmer in Calgary. It was supposed to be -2C last Friday and it wasn't even close at -28C. However, the news on Friday said it will get up to 2C by Tuesday. Now we're all going to stay in this -20C deep freeze all next week.

So why no quote today? I have lots of quotes from smarter people than I but the whole reason for a blog is kind of the whole pointlessness of it. Even the word- blog- sounds like a word to which no rules can be ascribed. I decided that I would do a short profile of a website; that is Project Censored. Their goal is to highlight the biggest news stories that you never heard. The program has been run from Sonoma State University since 1973. This is the link to their top 25 stories that never made the cut for the main stream news in 2002-2003. A very enlightening read. I just saw a reindeer and a polar bear fighting over a hot chocolate in the street in front of my house. It is very cold.

Friday, January 30, 2004

The cold is finally lifting from Calgary. I just arrived home from listening to a wonderful mezzo-soprano tonight. I was also fortunate to be accompanied by a very pleasant and interesting womyn who first told me about the performance. So now, sitting in front of my computer, being warmed by my branded Starbucks/Nike/Google spaceheater I will again bring out the convention of a quote to spur the conversation. This time from Dr. Martin Luther King:

"My third reason [for bringing Vietnam into the field of my moral vision] moves to an even deeper level of awareness, for it grows out of my experience in the ghettoes of the North over the last three years -- especially the last three summers. As I have walked among the desperate, rejected and angry young men I have told them that Molotov cocktails and rifles would not solve their problems. I have tried to offer them my deepest compassion while maintaining my conviction that social change comes most meaningfully through nonviolent action. But they asked -- and rightly so -- what about Vietnam? They asked if our own nation wasn't using massive doses of violence to solve its problems, to bring about the changes it wanted. Their questions hit home, and I knew that I could never again raise my voice against the violence of the oppressed in the ghettos without having first spoken clearly to the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today -- my own government. For the sake of those boys, for the sake of this government, for the sake of hundreds of thousands trembling under our violence, I cannot be silent." -- Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. New York's Riverside Church on April 4, 1967

I have immense respect for Dr. King because he was out-right and completely non-violent, just like myself. Some think that non-violence is only for the weak. But the way he was harassed showed that he was what can only be characterized as a powerful man. He was not perfect but he probably would have been the first to admit it. The ultimate weakness of violence, this is, why violence never does solve anything, is that violence leads only to more violence. The most pressing and explicate example of this viscous cycle today is the Israel vs. Palestine conflict. There are counter arguments, at the deepest level mostly that destruction must always precede creation and that violence is inherent in nature. I must go from my gut and say I truly do not feel this way. Why must I blindly be lead by an academic? I have the view that humans create there own future and that the world is what we make it (Hegel's Philosophy of History studies this phenomenon). However deeper probing into this augment must be quitted for another day.

Some readers may be struck by how true the quote sounds even today. Has nothing changed from when Martin Luther King was shot? This is troubling but I am not discouraged. Noam Chomsky was asked what steps the USA should take to reduce global terrorism. He simply replied that the USA should stop taking part in terrorism and that this step in itself would reduce terrorism (examples of state sponsered terrorism by the USA since WWII are too numerous to state here). Why should the Vietnamese, or truly my generation's Vietnam: Iraq, want democracy when we are bombing and terrorizing them, or futhermore when we can't even promise that we've perfected democracy (or capitalism?). I want to reach further than my grasp.

Thursday, January 29, 2004

I though this quote from Noam Chomsky was very enlightening and a good jump off point for today. The man is clearly ahead of his time. He voices his fears of America being a fascist state. And while many would concede that 2004's America does fall squarely in the category of a fascist rouge state(Ill try to find a source for this), what is ground breaking about Mr. Chomsky is he was revealing this as early as 1969.

"No less insidious is the cry for 'revolution,' at a time when not even the germs of new institutions exist, let alone the moral and political consciousness that could lead to a basic modification of social life. If there will be a 'revolution' in America today, it will no doubt be a move towards some variety of fascism. We must guard against the kind of revolutionary rhetoric that would have had Karl Marx burn down the British Museum because it was merely part of a repressive society. It would be criminal to overlook the serious flaws and inadequacies in our institutions, or to fail to utilize the substantial degree of freedom that most of us enjoy, within the framework of these flawed institutions, to modify them or even replace them by a better social order. One who pays some attention to history will not be surprised if those who cry most loudly that we must smash and destroy are later found among the administrators of some new system of repression." Source: Introduction to American Power and the New Mandarins(1969), pp. 17-18

Why is it important for a Canadian to worry so much about the USA. While, simple put, they have amassed the largest, most violent, military in the history of man kind and so I feel it is in everyone's best interest to watch this superpower. I watch the movements of this dragon because I am not distracted but the glitz of TVs or the glam of movies nor the scandals of celebrity. I know of many others that feel this way and want change. So stay tuned to this blog for examples of real democracy. The Revolution will not be Televised.
